PAKSAT-MM1 | Pakistan’s First Multi-Mission Satellite is Now Operational

Pakistan has reached a significant milestone in its space and digital development with the successful launch and operation of its first multi-mission satellite, PAKSAT-MM1. The satellite, which has completed its testing phase, marks a new era for the country’s technological progress, particularly in enhancing internet connectivity across Pakistan.

At the PAKSAT-MM1 Satellite Application Conference held on Wednesday, Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to using space technologies for national development. “The success of PAKSAT-MM1 will revolutionize our communication infrastructure, benefiting all sectors of society,” she said. The satellite is expected to play a crucial role in providing better internet connectivity, especially in remote and underserved areas, furthering Pakistan’s goal of becoming a digitally connected nation.

Boosting Digitalization and National Growth

Shaza Fatima Khawaja emphasized the importance of digitalization for Pakistan’s socio-economic prosperity, stating, “Digitalisation is key to socio-economic prosperity.” She also highlighted Pakistan’s improved standing in the UN’s e-governance development index, with the country climbing 14 points and achieving a higher tier in digital e-governance in Asia.

PAKSAT-MM1 is expected to serve the country for more than 15 years and provide a range of services, including broadband, VSAT connectivity, and advanced telecommunications. Operating across C, Ku, Ka, and L bands, the satellite is a major leap forward for Pakistan’s space technology capabilities.

PAKSAT-MM1’s Role in Bridging the Digital Divide

Chairman of SUPARCO, Muhammad Yousuf Khan, praised the satellite’s potential to contribute to socio-economic development. “PAKSAT-MM1 will serve unconnected regions with services like DTH, community internet, tele-education, and telemedicine,” he stated, urging local industries to collaborate on future space initiatives.

The launch event was attended by prominent government officials, industry leaders, and experts, all celebrating the satellite’s role in promoting national development and reducing the digital divide in Pakistan.
