CM Maryam Announces ‘Honhaar Scholarships’ – Here is What You Need to Know

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif officially inaugurated the Honhaar Scholarship Program on Wednesday to support deserving students in achieving high-quality education. The launch ceremony was held at Punjab University, where CM Maryam distributed checks to successful applicants and introduced an e-portal for easy access to the program.

Program Highlights

The program, worth Rs 130 billion, aims to assist students across Punjab by covering their full tuition fees. CM Maryam Nawaz shared that 70,000 students applied for the program, out of which 30,000 scholarships were awarded. She noted that 32% of recipients are from South Punjab, and 18,000 scholarships have been granted to female students.

Fields and Coverage

Under this initiative, students from 68 districts are eligible. Scholarships will benefit 50 public sector university students and 131 graduates from 16 major fields, including newly enrolled MBBS and BDS students, in 2024.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply, students must meet the following requirements:

  • Punjab domicile and under 22 years of age.
  • Family income below Rs 300,000 (affidavit required).
  • Enrolled in selected disciplines at approved institutions in fall 2024.
  • Meet the minimum marks requirement
Medical College 80%
Top Universities  80%
Public Sector Universities  75% (Science), 70% (Arts and Social Sciences)
HED Colleges  65% (Science), 60% (Arts and Social Sciences)

The Punjab Higher Education Department praised the program as a monumental step toward supporting education. As CM Maryam Nawaz stated, this initiative reflects the government’s commitment to investing in future generations.
