The US Fulbright Scholarship is one of the most popular scholarships announced yearly. What are the Eligibility Criteria for Submitting a Fulbright Scholarship Application?

  • Pakistani nationals with solid educational backgrounds are eligible.

  • Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply, except MBS and Public Policy applicants, who must have two years of experience and a bachelor’s degree.

For Doctoral Degree

  • The applicant for the PhD degree program must have completed at least 18 years of formal education and hold a master’s or M.Phil degree from an accredited university.
  • The applicant must have prior experience in teaching, research, or the public sector in Pakistan.

Candidates Who Cannot Apply

  • Individuals with dual nationality are not eligible.
  • Persons with a sibling, child, or spouse who is a US citizen are not eligible.
  • Employees who have close relations (spouse, child, sibling, parent) with employees of the Fulbright organization are not eligible to apply.
  • People who have already received a Fulbright award for any degree are not eligible.
  • Individuals residing in any foreign country on a work or study visa are not eligible.

How To Apply For Fulbright Scholarship Program?

Applications are open for the Fulbright Scholarship 2024 program; an online application with references and required documents must be submitted by uploading the following documents along

  • Application form
  • Three reference letters
  • GRE Score report
  • Scanned educational transcripts along with an explanation of the grading scale of the university issuing the degree
  • HEC attested documents
  • The issuing authority must authorize educational degrees and transcripts at the time of application.

Documents Needed for PhD and Master’s Programmes

  • All fields are eligible for the master’s and PhD programs, except clinical medicine.
  • Graduate Record Examination (GRE) score of at least 138 in the verbal and 136 in the quantitative sections
  • English spoken and written must be proficient.
  • The selected candidate must sign a contract committing them to serve Pakistan for at least two years and return home immediately after their US program.

Timeframe to Get an Interview Call:

Initial Review: USEFP usually takes a few months after the application deadline to complete the initial review and shortlist candidates for interviews.

Interview Notification: Shortlisted candidates are typically notified within 3-6 months after the application deadline. This period can vary based on the number of applications received and other administrative factors.

  1. Number of Interviews: Generally, shortlisted candidates are required to attend a single interview.
  2. Interview Panel: The interview is conducted by a panel of American and Pakistani academics and professionals.
  3. Interview Focus: Questions usually revolve around the applicant’s academic background, proposed study/research plan, motivation for applying, and future plans after completing the Fulbright Scholarship Program.
  4. Duration: The interview typically lasts between 20 to 30 minutes.

Post-Interview:

  1. Selection Notification: Final selection notifications are generally made several weeks to a few months after the interview.
  2. Final Approval: Final approval is subject to obtaining a US visa and medical clearance.
