“Murad Sadpara’s tragic passing leaves a void in the mountaineering world, but his legacy of bravery and dedication will continue to inspire generations to come.”

The mountaineering world is in mourning as news broke of the tragic death of Pakistani climber Murad Sadpara. The seasoned mountaineer, who was leading an initiative to clean up K-2, succumbed to severe injuries during his descent from Broad Peak, according to a confirmation by the Broad Peak Rescue Team on Monday.

The incident occurred when Sadpara, 35, was struck on the head by a falling rock at Camp 1 on Broad Peak, a mountain standing at 8,047 meters (26,400 feet) in the Karakoram Range. Despite his critical condition, Sadpara continued to hope for rescue. The Pakistan Army responded swiftly, deploying four expert climbers to assist in the rescue operation. Unfortunately, Sadpara’s injuries proved fatal, and he passed away before the rescue team could reach him.

Murad Sadpara, a distinguished figure in Pakistan’s mountaineering community, had successfully summited Nanga Parbat twice and had taken part in numerous high-altitude rescue missions. His death is a significant loss not only to Pakistan but to the global mountaineering fraternity. The rescue team is now focused on safely returning his body to the base camp.

Sadpara was accompanied by a Portuguese climber on this expedition. The duo had initially set out to scale Broad Peak but were forced to retreat due to harsh weather and Sadpara’s partner’s illness. The Pakistani Alpine Club’s Secretary, Karrar Haidri, confirmed that the Portuguese climber is safe and did not provide further details.
