Hulunbuir, China – In a dominant display of hockey, Pakistan’s national team sealed their place in the semi-finals of the 2024 Asian Hockey Champions Trophy with a commanding 5-1 win over China on Thursday at the Moqi Hockey Training Base. This impressive performance sets up an exhilarating clash against their traditional rivals, India, in their last round-robin match on Saturday.
Pakistan asserted their control from the outset, leading 2-0 at halftime. The team maintained their momentum in the second half, adding three more goals while conceding just once. Nadeem Ahmed and Hannan Shahid were instrumental in the victory, each scoring twice. Abdul Rehman also contributed a goal, completing the team’s impressive offensive effort. China’s lone goal was netted by GAO Jiesheng in the fourth quarter.
This win follows Pakistan’s narrow 2-1 victory over Japan on Wednesday. Nadeem Ahmed scored the opening goal in the first quarter, but Japan equalized in the second. However, Sufyan Khan’s decisive goal in the 10th minute of the second quarter ensured Pakistan’s first win of the competition.
Earlier, Pakistan had drawn their opening games against Malaysia and South Korea, both finishing 2-2. With this recent victory and their growing form, Pakistan is gearing up for a high-stakes encounter against India, who have remained unbeaten throughout the tournament. The upcoming match promises to be a thrilling encounter between two of the sport’s traditional powerhouses, with Pakistan looking to continue its strong performance and advance further in the competition.
